The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) at Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research (NIBR) is committed to discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders that will change this alarming statistic.

      We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our System Biology group in CVM. We conceive, develop, validate and employ biochemical and cell biology tools to evaluate and develop new therapeutics against a range of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

      What you will be doing:
      •Conceive, plan and perform biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based assays
      •Contribute to development of 2D / 3D human iPS-derived cellular models related to cardiac biology
      •Develop and implement screening platforms to identify and validate targets influencing cardiovascular disease.
      •Support target validation, mechanism-of-action, and drug discovery projects
      •Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments
      •Collaborate while working in a matrix environment to support drug discovery projects
      •Keep good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices
      •Present results in lab and department meetings



      What you will bring to the role:
      •MS plus 3 or more years' experience or recent PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, bioengineering or other life science field
      •Knowledge of cardiovascular biology and related experimental approaches a plus
      •Direct experience with human iPS derived cellular models preferred
      •Expertise in advanced molecular biology applications, CRISPR, genetic engineering and complex 2D/3D disease model development a plus
      •Knowledge of high throughput biochemical and cell-based assay development
      •Ability to quickly grasp new techniques and focus on detail
      •Basic knowledge of statistics and computational data analyses skills
      •Excellent team player, who demonstrates good communication skills, creative problem-solving capabilities, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment
      •Strong written, oral and record keeping skills
      •Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with a passion to drive groundbreaking science

Kidney disease impacts 14% of the population, many of whom will progress to kidney failure, Recent advances in understanding the molecular basis of liver and kidney diseases, as well as development of exciting new technologies, enables Novartis scientists to creatively and strategically pursue novel therapies to help these patients.

      Disease Area X, a division within Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), is seeking an innovative scientist to join our in vivo pharmacology group for liver and kidney diseases in our mission to develop ground-breaking new therapies.

      Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

      - Conduct in vivo experiments involving rodent models of liver and kidney diseases, including delivering novel therapeutics, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses, clinical observations, and harvesting of tissues for analysis of efficacy.

      - Execute standard molecular biology techniques to evaluate therapeutic effect (such as, but not limited to, RT-qPCR, ELISAs, and Western blots).

      - Establish collaborative working relationships with scientific partners across the NIBR organization

      - Implement established and novel technologies to ensure scientific excellence and impactful results

      - Ability to present scientific results to project teams within DAx and in the broader NIBR community



      What You'll Bring to the Role:

      - B.A. or B.S. degree in a biological or chemical science field and 4+ years of relevant experience, or a M.S. degree and 2+ years of relevant experience in a related field.

      - Ability to integrate into a highly-collaborative, multi-person team

      - Oral and written proficiency in English.

      Desirable Requirements:

      - M.S. degree in a biological or chemical science subject area

      - Experience with cell culture, ex vivo, primary culture of rodent tissues and cells.
