Statement

I have been a proud member of APS since 1976 and would bring a wealth of experience to APS leadership through my involvement in the APS at multiple levels. As chair of the Environmental & Exercise Physiology Section from 2013 to 2016, I was able to increase the number of sponsorships, increase the number of awards given to predoctoral, postdoctoral and young investigators, and increase the membership and the financial status of the section. Accordingly, I can understand the challenges that the different sections face in maintaining or increasing their membership along with the economic difficulties that each section encounters in maintaining their programming. Through my participation of the APS Strategic Planning Committee, along with my past APS experiences, I believe that I have a clear understanding of the Society’s missions to further the science of physiology along with where the APS wants and needs to go in the future. If elected, I would do my best in working with the Section Advisory Committee and with the APS Executive Council and staff in moving forward with the APS’s most recent strategic plan. It would be an honor and privilege to continue serving the APS in this manner.
