"My start as an active member of the American Physiological Society (APS) Cardiovascular (CV) Section began in 2011 when I was an assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego. I had heard through my respected colleagues in the cardiovascular field that APS offered various opportunities to participate in cardiovascular focused committee service and programming, which was unique from other cardiovascular societies. I applied and was selected to serve on the CV Section Awards Committee from 2012 to 2015. I continued to serve as chair of the CV Section Awards Committee from 2016 to 2019. Since then, I have taken an active role in advocating for CV representation on various APS-wide committees. Through every position, I gained intimate knowledge of the moving parts and leaders that make up the CV Section committees and APS. These experiences have not only allowed me to progressively gain visibility in APS and the cardiovascular field but have also now propelled me in a leadership position to serve APS as chair of the Cardiovascular Section. APS has been instrumental in providing me with service opportunities early on in my career as a means to fortify my growth as an academic."
