APS members who join the Respiration Section gain access to an active community of researchers passionate about fostering interest and discussion of original research in lung biology and the control of breathing to advance understanding of basic physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms. A major goal is to facilitate the development of young investigators by encouraging attendance and participation at the APS annual meeting. In addition to hosting scientific sessions, the Respiration Section offers an outstanding program of research recognition awards (at all levels) and hosts multiple events including the Control of Breathing Mixer, the Trainee Highlights Breakfast and our Section banquet to maximize opportunity for networking, education and scientific discourse among trainees and established investigators.
"I have been an APS member since I was a graduate student, and I have been a longstanding member of the Respiration Section. The annual meetings have always been important to me, as I have experienced the meeting as a trainee, new investigator and now a senior investigator. It is a great honor to serve as Chair of the Respiration Section, and I look forward to the wonderful opportunities for our section as the APS enters a new era."
