APS members who join the Respiration Section gain access to an active community of researchers passionate about fostering interest and discussion of original research in lung biology and the control of breathing to advance understanding of basic physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms. A major goal is to facilitate the development of young investigators by encouraging attendance and participation at the APS annual meeting. In addition to hosting scientific sessions, the Respiration Section offers an outstanding program of research recognition awards (at all levels) and hosts multiple events including the Control of Breathing Mixer, the Trainee Highlights Breakfast and our Section banquet to maximize opportunity for networking, education and scientific discourse among trainees and established investigators.

“The APS Respiration Section has been my scientific home for more than 25 years. The support, camaraderie and scientific discussions I have experienced have been fundamentally important to my career. It is my honor to serve as section chair.”
