The Center for Physiology Education is excited to provide this community event to discuss the core concepts of physiology. We welcome your participation in this Q & A session with learning module authors, APS members Jenny McFarland, PhD, and Joel Michael, PhD. McFarland and Michael have collaborated on a number of research projects focusing on the core concepts of physiology. Access their most recent publication, “Another look at the core concepts of physiology: revisions and resources.” 

Attendees of this program will learn more about the Center for Physiology Education Core Concepts Learning Module and how to best use the core concepts to improve and assess student learning. Participants will also learn more about the learning management system resources.  

Speakers

Jenny McFarland, phD
Jenny L. McFarland, PhD, is emeritus faculty and a former Biology Department chair at Edmonds Community College (now Edmonds College) in Lynnwood, Washington, where she taught human anatomy and physiology and introductory biology courses. She taught diverse groups of community college students for three decades.
 
 

Joel Michael, PhD
Joel Michael, PhD, is a professor emeritus in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics, at Rush Medical College in Chicago. His research focus was on how students learn physiology and how teachers can best help students learn. He has spent more than 20 years researching how to best help students learn the important concepts of physiology and how to determine whether they understand the concepts they have been taught.
