Rockville, Md. (January 19, 2021)—The American Physiological Society (APS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Industry Career Development Initiative, created in collaboration with Novartis. Based in Switzerland, Novartis is a premier biopharmaceutical company conducting research in the areas of cardiovascular and metabolic disease, neuroscience and musculoskeletal disease, among other areas of research.

The initiative will provide unique exploration of Novartis’ physiology-based areas of interest, postdoctoral fellowships and internship programs. Starting in 2021, APS will highlight featured research and scientific affairs positions at the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) as part of the Society’s Job Board. The Society will also disseminate summaries of NIBR’s primary research areas and postdoctoral programs that overlap with APS member interests.

“Our research shows that many APS members pursue careers in the biopharmaceutical industry. The goal of this partnership with Novartis is to expand APS’ existing career development resources, bringing together a world-class pharmaceutical company with our world-class scientists,” said APS Chief Engagement and Partnerships Officer Meeghan De Cagna. “We are committed to supporting career and professional development of our members whether they remain in academic research or work in the biopharmaceutical industry or classroom. APS is thrilled to partner with Novartis as we both seek to understand life and improve health.”
