Award Description
The Gastrointestinal & Liver Physiology Section New Investigator Award recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of their career. Candidates should have made meritorious contributions to the area represented by the Gastrointestinal & Liver Physiology Section.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- be an APS member in good standing
- hold the rank of assistant Professor or a comparable position in a research track at an academic institution or in industry (e.g. scientist, sr. scientist, research investigator, etc.).
- be nominated from one regular APS member
Criteria
- APS member number
- curriculum vitae
- one nomination letter by an APS member, and
- URLs for three publications
Applicants may also submit a PDF of their American Physiology Summit abstract with the abstract number and first author's full name included. Abstract submission is optional, not required.
Candidates will be judged on their publications, how the publications relate to the Gastrointestinal & Liver Physiology Section and on evidence for independence and promise (e.g., grant funding, peer review activities).
Although this is not an abstract-based award, awardees are expected to attend the American Physiology Summit and make an oral presentation at the Gastrointestinal & Liver trainee symposium.

Award at a Glance
Award amount: $1,000, reimbursement of the American Physiology Summit early registration, and complimentary admission to the Gastrointestinal & Liver Section banquet
