Award Description
The American Physiological Society (APS) Neural Control & Autonomic Regulation (NCAR) Outstanding Graduate Student Award provides travel support to one graduate student to present research at the American Physiology Summit.
Eligibility
The applicant must be:
- An APS member in good standing with a primary NCAR Section affiliation.
- A graduate student working towards a PhD (post-candidacy exams) in neural control and autonomic regulation.
Criteria
The application package includes:
- PDF of the first-author abstract of unpublished work to any appropriate NCAR topic category at the American Physiology Summit. Please note that abstracts submitted to non-NCAR topic categories are not eligible.
- NCAR-specific biosketch (use only the NCAR biosketch form) written by the applicant, that includes a one-page personal statement summarizing the applicant’s research contributions, a complete list of publications and abstracts (listed separately), and any fellowships and awards.
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant's advisor indicating the expected date (month/year) of completion of the degree program.
- Verifiable documentation of the date (month/year) of completion of the post-candidacy program.
Applications with excess or incomplete materials, such as additional recommendation letters or a lack of verifiable documentation will not be considered.
Award review criteria are based on the applicant’s current work reflected in the abstract, their research accomplishments and the letter of recommendation. The awardee will present their abstract at the NCAR Trainee Awards Session (oral and poster sessions) at the Summit. Attendance at the Summit and NCAR Section Reception and Business Meeting is required to receive the award.
Applications are only accepted via online submission.
