Award Description

The Juan Carlos Romero and Water & Electrolyte Homeostasis (WEH) Section Postdoctoral Research Award recognizes an outstanding postdoctoral fellow working broadly in water and electrolyte homeostasis based on a written abstract and on-site oral presentation competition.

Eligibility

This applicant must:

  • be an APS member, and 
  • be a postdoctoral fellow.
Criteria

The application package consists of:

  • curriculum vitae with a complete list of publications and abstracts, 
  • PDF of the abstract submitted to a WEH Section topic category, and 
  • the abstract number and first author’s full name, sponsor or advisor’s full name and sponsor or advisor’s email address. 

The WEH Awards Committee will select three finalists from the submitted abstracts who will attend the American Physiology Summit and make an oral presentation at the WEH Section Trainee Award Finalists Session. Finalists will receive $1,000 and a complimentary ticket to the WEH Section luncheon. Two runners-up will receive $500 each. 

The finalist with the top oral presentation score will receive the Postdoctoral Research Award, $1,000 and a complimentary one-year APS membership. The recipient will be invited to submit a symposium topic for the following year’s American Physiology Summit under the direction of a Steering Committee member or the recipient of the WEH New Investigator Award.
