Award Description
The Cell & Molecular Physiology (Cell) Section Research Recognition Award honors outstanding research by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who present a first-author abstract at the American Physiology Summit.
Award Criteria
Applicants will be evaluated in the following areas:
- Abstract. This includes a clearly stated hypothesis, technical approach to the study, pertinent results obtained with quantitative and statistical comparisons, a clearly stated conclusion and significance of research to the field.
- Letter. This includes the applicant’s role in the abstract research, why the applicant is deserving of the award and a statement of the applicant’s research goals.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be an APS member in good standing.
- Be a graduate student. postdoctoral fellow or medical resident.
- Submit an abstract to a Cell Section topic category.
- Be able to attend the Summit to accept the award.
Application Requirements
A complete application must include:
- Confirmation that the applicant’s abstract is submitted to a Cell Section topic category.
- A PDF of the abstract submission.
- The abstract number, the first author’s name and the sponsor’s or advisor’s name and email address.
- A letter from the applicant co-signed by the primary research mentor stating their eligibility for the award(s) applied for, contribution to the research, significance of the research contained in the abstract to the field and statement of the applicant's research goals.
- A biosketch in the National Institutes of Health format.
Conditions of the Award
Awardees must accept the award at the Summit and attend the Cell Section banquet. Recipients are responsible for funding their travel.
The Cell Section Awards Committee selects up to 10 recipients each year.
Applicants may receive a Research Recognition Award once as a graduate student and once as a postdoctoral fellow, regardless of section affiliation. Applicants may apply to as many awards as they are eligible for, however, recipients may only accept one abstract-based award for the Summit.
