Award Description

The American Physiological Society (APS) Cardiovascular (CV) Section New Investigator Award was founded in 2002 and is made possible by the support of APS strategic partner, ADInstruments. This award recognizes an outstanding researcher in the early stages of their career who has made meritorious contributions to the scientific areas represented by the CV Section. 

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • Be an APS member in good standing and have a primary affiliation with the CV Section.
  • Not hold a rank above assistant professor or an equivalent position in an academic institution or in industry. 
  • Attend the American Physiology Summit.

Criteria

The application package includes:

  • Biosketch in National Institutes of Health format, which includes descriptions of the applicant's contributions to cardiovascular research and a list of no more than 15 most prominent publications. 
  • PDF of a first- or senior-author abstract from the applicant’s lab that will be presented at the Summit. 
  • Abstract number. 
  • Abstract author's full name.
  • Confirmation that the abstract topic submission corresponds with the correct section.

Candidates will be judged on their abstract, new research development(s), how their new area of investigation relates to the CV Section and evidence of their independence and promise, e.g., funding, peer review activities. Materials in excess will be excluded from evaluation. The awardee must attend the Summit to receive the award and be recognized at the CV Section banquet.

Applicants may apply to as many awards as they are eligible for, however, recipients may only accept one abstract-based award for the American Physiology Summit.
