Award Description

The Neural Control & Autonomic Regulation (NCAR) Section’s Lifetime Achievement Lecture is intended to recognize the long-standing and successful career of a world-renowned, distinguished investigator who has made substantial contributions to improve our understanding of autonomic regulation in normal or disease states. The recipient’s body of research should be widespread, creating new research pathways that have revolutionized our understanding of autonomic neuroscience. 

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • Be a current member of the NCAR Section.
  • Have made original and noteworthy contributions to the advancement of autonomic regulation in all aspects of the discipline.

Research impact, participation in APS or other autonomic-related societies, dissemination of knowledge through writings and conferences, mentoring of investigators within the autonomic community and other related activities will be considered during the selection process.

Criteria

The application package includes:

  • Curriculum vitae. 
  • Two letters of recommendation from APS members affiliated with the NCAR Section that highlight the nominee's accomplishments toward the award.

Applications with excess or incomplete materials, such as additional recommendation letters beyond the two required or a blank curriculum vitae, will not be considered.

The recipient is chosen by the NCAR Section Steering Committee as a representative of the best within this discipline who has shaped our field with innovative and productive research. 

The award recipient must present a 45-minute online lecture with discussion to be scheduled after the American Physiology Summit. The recipient is also expected to actively participate in NCAR Section functions at the Summit and attend the NCAR Section Reception and Business Meeting t to receive the award. They are also invited to submit a review article to the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology on a topic related to the recipient's lecture.
