Award amount: $1,000 plus reimbursement of the early registration fee to the American Physiology Summit and up to $2,000 to cover travel and travel expenses incurred during the Summit.

Award Description

The Neural Control & Autonomic Regulation (NCAR) Section’s Lifetime Achievement Award is intended to recognize the career achievement of a world-renowned, distinguished investigator who has made substantial contributions over a long career to improve our understanding of autonomic regulation in normal and/or disease states. The recipient’s body of research should be widespread, creating new research pathways that have revolutionized our understanding of autonomic neuroscience.

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • be a current member of the NCAR Section, and
  • have made original and noteworthy contributions to the advancement of autonomic regulation in all aspects of the discipline.

Research impact, participation in APS or other autonomic-related societies, dissemination of knowledge through writings and conferences, mentoring of investigators within the autonomic community and other related activities will be considered during the selection process.

Criteria

The application package includes:

  • curriculum vitae, and
  • two letters of recommendation from APS members affiliated with the NCAR Section that highlight the nominee's accomplishments toward the award.

The recipient is chosen by the NCAR Section Steering Committee as a representative of the best within this discipline who has shaped our field with innovative and productive research.

Requirements

The award recipient must:

  • present a 45-minute lecture with discussion;
  • submit a review article to the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology on a topic related to the awardee’s lecture;
  • actively participate in NCAR functions at the American Physiology Summit; and
  • attend the NCAR Reception and business meeting at the Summit to receive the award.
