Award Description

The American Physiological Society (APS) Respiration Section New Investigator Award recognizes an outstanding researcher in the early stages of their career. Candidates should be researchers who have made meritorious contributions to the area represented by the Respiration Section. This award is made possible by APS strategic partner ADInstruments

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • Be an APS member in good standing with a primary Respiration Section affiliation. 
  • Not hold the rank above assistant professor or a comparable research position in an academic institution or industry (e.g., scientist, research investigator).  
  • Be an independent investigator for no more than eight years at the time of application.
  • Attend the American Physiology Summit and give an oral or poster presentation. 
Criteria

The application package includes: 

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Two nomination letters from APS members.  
  • Three publication reprints.

Optional Materials:

  • PDF of the abstract submission.
  • Abstract number.
  • Abstract first author's full name.

Candidates will be judged on their publications, how the publications relate to the interest of the Respiration Section, evidence for independence and potential (e.g., grant funding, peer review activities, etc.) and level of participation in the Summit and APS-related activities.
