Award Description
The American Physiological Society (APS) Environmental & Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Predoctoral Research Awards recognizes predoctoral graduate students for outstanding research in environmental, exercise, thermal, or applied physiology that involves the evaluation of physiological responses in controlled simulated environmental conditions.
From the Predoctoral Research Award applicant pool, the EEP Section offers:
One award sponsored by Cantrol International ($500) for research in environmental, exercise, thermal, or applied physiology that involves the evaluation of physiological responses in controlled simulated environmental conditions.
One award sponsored by the Gatorade Sport Science Institute ($600) for research in environmental, exercise, thermal, or applied physiology.
One award sponsored by Nike Loren G. Myhre ($1,500) for research in environmental, exercise, thermal or applied physiology.
Eligibility
The applicants must:
- Be an APS member with primary EEP Section affiliation.
- Be a graduate student.
- Not have received their advanced degree by the American Physiology Summit abstract deadline.
- Be first author on an abstract submitted for the Summit in an EEP Section topic category.
Criteria
The application package includes:
- PDF of the abstract.
- The abstract number and first author’s full name, sponsor or advisor’s full name and email address.
- Letter from the applicant and co-signed by the primary research mentor stating their eligibility for the award, contribution to the research, significance of the research in the abstract and statement of applicant’s research goals.
- Biosketch (National Institutes of Health or National Science Foundation format).
Applications with excess or incomplete materials, such as unlisted or blank documents will not be evaluated.
Letter/statement format:
- 0.8-inch margins
- 11-point font
- single spaces
Applications will be judged on the following:
Abstract
- Clearly stated hypothesis or aim, technical approach, results reporting.
- Appropriate conclusion and significance.
Other
- Letter from the applicant.
- Biosketch.
Award recipients may receive each of these awards once as a graduate student and once as a postdoctoral fellow, regardless of section affiliation. Applicants may apply to as many awards as they are eligible for, however, recipients may only accept one abstract-based award for the Summit. Recipients must attend the Summit to receive the award.
