The Usha (“dawn” in Sanskrit) Award, sponsored by Y.S. Prakash, MD, PhD, associate editor of the American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, is awarded to two promising trainees. Applicants must be first author of an abstract submitted to a Respiration topic for presentation at the American Physiological Society’s annual meeting at Experimental Biology. Criteria for selection will include the level of excitement regarding the nominee's future, contribution by the nominee to the work and the importance of his or her work to the field. Nominees are selected by the Respiration Section.
- Research fellow (<5 years since being granted the terminal degree (e.g. PhD, MD, DO, DVM)
- Undergraduate or graduate trainee.
- Criteria for selection will include the level of excitement regarding the nominee's future, contribution by the nominee to the work, and the importance of the work to their field.
- Submit a first-authored abstract to a Respiration topic.
