Month of Learning: Homeostasis

Join the APS Center for Physiology Education (CPE) for the Homeostasis Month of Learning during October. Throughout the month, participants will join Mary Pat Wenderoth, PhD, CPE Advisory Board Member, as she provides an essential framework for teaching homeostasis in the Homeostasis Learning Module. In the second half of the month, educators will provide practical examples and advice for teaching homeostasis.

Month of Learning FAQs

Who should commit to the Month of Learning?

All current or future physiology educators who want a foundational understanding of homeostasis will find this designated timeline and community beneficial. The Month of Learning also provides an opportunity for participants to be involved with the APS Center for Physiology Education by working alongside other educators who have similar goals.

What does “committing” to a Month of Learning mean?

By committing to the Month of Learning, you are strategically setting aside time to learn about teaching homeostasis. Doing this work with a community of educators provides an opportunity for support, discussion, and sharing of resources. The Center for Physiology Education will support your work by:

  • providing weekly benchmarks for successfully completing the Homeostasis Learning Module,
  • facilitating discussion boards, and
  • hosting live virtual events to provide advanced content and answer your lingering questions.

As a bonus, all participants who complete the Homeostasis Learning Module (free to all APS members) by the end of October 2023 will be entered to win a Center for Physiology Education special gift!

What is the Homeostasis Learning Module?

In collaboration with content experts, the CPE has created engaging online learning experiences known as learning modules. The learning modules include videos, activities, and resources that can be accessed any time, allowing educators to work on improving their courses and curricula on their own schedule. The Homeostasis Learning Module provides foundational knowledge of homeostasis as defined by education experts. This learning module is part of the Teaching and Learning Integrative Physiology Series, comprising learning modules on various physiology teaching content.

What if I have already started or completed the Homeostasis Learning Module?

If you have already completed the Homeostasis Learning Module – or you are working your way through it – fantastic! Please register to commit to the Month of Learning and use the discussion board to ask questions, share resources with fellow educators, and join us for the live virtual sessions on implementing activities and shaping curricula around homeostasis.

How can I win a Center for Physiology Education branded gift?

Complete the Homeostasis Learning Module by 11:59 pm, local time, October 31, 2023, and you will be entered in a raffle to win a CPE special gift!
