There are two awards available for the 2020 APS 11th International Conference on Heme Oxygenase and Related Enzymes: From Physiology to Therapeutics.:

Abstract-based Trainee Travel Awards for Postdoctoral and Graduate Students

To encourage the participation of young scientists in training, awards will be granted to trainees for best abstract submission. The awards will consist of a cash prize and certificate.

Award applicants will be judged prior to and during the conference. Winners will be announced during one of the conference’s sessions, where they will receive a certificate from the conference organizers.

Criteria and Important Award Application Instructions
  • To be considered for an award the candidate must:
  • be a student or postdoctoral fellow within five years of receiving their postdoctoral degree,
  • be the first author on the abstract,
  • submit an abstract for the conference via the online abstract submission site,
  • designate during the abstract submission process that you would like to be considered for the Abstract-based Trainee Travel Award (if eligible), and
  • apply and complete the award application on the APS Awards webpage by following the link that will be provided in the submission site after your submission fee has been paid and the abstract submission has been finalized.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted or reviewed.

Martin Frank Diversity Travel Award

APS offers travel awards for those who traditionally have been underrepresented in science to attend the 2020 APS 11th International Conference on Heme Oxygenase and Related Enzymes: From Physiology to Therapeutics.

The Martin Frank Diversity Travel Awards—formerly known as the APS Minority Travel Fellowship Awards—are designed to increase active participation in and networking at APS scientific conferences among trainees and early-career faculty from groups underrepresented in the physiological sciences.

Martin Frank Travel Awards are open to:

  • graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early-career faculty (recently transitioned/within five years of obtaining a PhD) from underrepresented racial or ethnic backgrounds; (following the NIH Guidelines and
  • graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career faculty (recently transitioned/within five years of obtaining a PhD) with disabilities.

Applicants must be attending U.S. institutions and conducting research within the 50 states or U.S. Territories. Porter Physiology Development Fellows are highly encouraged to apply. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Awardees will receive up to $1,800 in expense reimbursement for registration, housing, meals, air and ground transportation and tips. These awards do not provide funds for international travel.
