Integrative Physiology of Exercise Conference Speakers 

The American Physiological Society (APS) invites scientists from around the world to join us for the Integrative Physiology of Exercise conference. Held every four years, this exercise physiology conference will be held November 20–22, 2024, in State College, Pennsylvania. 

The program will spotlight the latest integrative and translational breakthroughs, including speakers who are the leaders in their fields.

Keynote Speakers

2024 IPE - Jim Pawelczyk 200x200Jim Pawelczyk, PhD
The Pennsylvania State University 
Associate professor of physiology and kinesiology, he founded and directs Penn State’s PhD program in clinical and translational sciences. His research focuses on neural control of circulation, particularly skeletal muscle blood flow, as it is affected by exercise or spaceflight. Pawelczyk flew aboard the NASA STS-90 Space Shuttle mission as a payload specialist and logged over 381 hours in space. 

2024 IPE - Ylva HellstenYlva Hellsten, DMS
University of Copenhagen 
Professor in cardiovascular and exercise physiology, her research interests include cardiovascular physiology and physical activity and inactivity. 

2024 IPE - Cynthia BeallCynthia Beall, MA, PhD
Case Western Reserve University 
A biological anthropologist, she has researched growth and development and infant morbidity/mortality in Andean populations, high altitude hypoxia, and physical activity and fitness and aging in Nepal.  

2024 IPE - Benjamin D. LevineBenjamin D. Levine, MD
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center 
Founder and director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, he is professor of internal medicine/cardiology and distinguished professor of exercise sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Axiom Space 
Chief medical officer for the world’s first commercial space station and an aerospace medicine specialist, he is an emergency and critical care medicine physician.
