Respiration Section Outstanding Trainee Award

Award Description

The Respiration Section Outstanding Trainee Award recognizes an exceptional postdoctoral trainee and early-career researcher who has made significant contributions to the areas represented by the Respiration Section.

Award Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated on:

• How their publications relate to the interests of the Respiration Section. 
• Evidence for future independence and potential (e.g., grant funding, peer review activities).
• Level of participation at the American Physiology Summit and APS-related activities. 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be an APS member in good standing with the Respiration Section as their primary affiliation. 
• Be a postdoctoral trainee.
• Submit an abstract to a Respiration Section topic category. 
• Be able to attend the Summit to accept the award.

Application Requirements

A complete application must include: 

• Confirmation that the applicant’s abstract is submitted to a Respiration Section topic category.
• A PDF of the abstract submission. 
• The abstract number and first author’s name.
• A curriculum vitae.
• Two nomination letters.

Optional materials:

• Up to three publication reprints.

The Respiration Section Awards Committee reviews selects one recipient each year.

Conditions of the Award

The awardee must accept the award at the Summit and attend the Respiration Section banquet. The recipient is responsible for funding their travel. 

Applicants may apply to as many awards as they are eligible for, however, recipients may only accept one abstract-based award for the American Physiology Summit.
