The Carl J. Wiggers Award is in honor of the Cardiovascular Section's founder, Carl J. Wiggers, whose research defined fundamental pressure-flow relationships in the cardiovascular system. In addition to publishing definitive texts in circulatory physiology, Dr. Wiggers founded Circulation Research and trained numerous future department heads as well as several presidents of the APS.
The Wiggers award is presented to a scientist who is a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section of the APS, who has made outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research throughout their career, has been an active and committed member of the section, and who will attract outstanding new members to the Cardiovascular Section from the United States and abroad.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be an APS member in good standing and an active member of the APS Cardiovascular Section.
- Applicant must have demonstrated commitment of service to the CV Section and/or the APS
- Applicant must be a Fellow of the APS Cardiovascular Section
Criteria
Applicants are required to submit the following:
- Provide a NIH-style biosketch which should include descriptions of the applicant's contributions to cardiovascular research
- 2 letters of nomination: one from a past or current trainee and the other of the applicant’s choice.
Please note: that materials in excess (eg., inclusion of extra letters beyond 2 required letters or inclusion or curriculum vitae) will be excluded from evaluation.
