In addition to publishing definitive texts in circulatory physiology, Wiggers founded the journal Circulation Research and trained numerous future department heads and several APS presidents.

The Wiggers award is presented to a scientist who is a Fellow of the APS Cardiovascular Section and has made outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research throughout their career, has been an active and committed member of the section, and who will attract outstanding new members to the Cardiovascular Section from the United States and abroad.

The applicant must:

  • be an APS member
  • an active member of the CV Section,
  • show demonstrated commitment of service to the CV Section and/or APS, and
  • be a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section

The application package includes:

  • a National Institutes of Health-style biosketch format including descriptions of the nominee's contributions to the cardiovascular research with significant contributions, and
  • two letters of nomination; one from a past or current trainee and the other from the nominator's choice

Please note that materials in excess (eg., inclusion of extra letters beyond the two required letters or inclusion or curriculum vitae) will be excluded from evaluation.
