Award Description
The Carl J. Wiggers Award honors the American Physiological Society (APS) Cardiovascular (CV) Section's founder Carl J. Wiggers, MD, whose research defined fundamental pressure-flow relationships in the cardiovascular system. In addition to publishing definitive texts in circulatory physiology, Wiggers founded the journal Circulation Research and trained numerous future department heads and several APS presidents.
The Carl J. Wiggers award is presented to a scientist who is a Fellow of the APS CV Section and has made outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research throughout their career, has been an active and committed member of the section and who will attract outstanding new members to the section from the U.S. and abroad.
Eligibility
The nominee must:
- Be an APS member and an active member of the CV Section.
- Be a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section.
- Show demonstrated commitment of service to the CV Section and APS.
Criteria
The nomination package includes:
- Biosketch in National Institutes of Health format including descriptions of the nominee's significant contributions to cardiovascular research.
- Two letters of nomination: One from a past or current trainee and one from the nominator's choosing.
Materials in excess will be excluded from evaluation.
