Award amount: $500, plus a  one-year membership complimentary APS membership and reimbursement of early registration fee for the American Physiology Summit

Who Can Apply:  Undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral trainees who are conducting comparative and evolutionary physiology research, apply for the award online and are first authors on the submitted abstracts presented in the Scholander Award Competition Poster Session at the American Physiology Summit. 

Award Description

The American Physiological Society (APS) Comparative & Evolutionary Physiology Section (CEPS) Scholander Award will be presented to an outstanding young investigator presenting research in the Scholander Competition Session at the American Physiology Summit. Applicants will be judged on their poster presentation at the meeting. The top research presentations will be selected for the award.  

Awardees will be recognized at the CEPS business meeting and banquet at the American Physiology Summit.  

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • be conducting research relevant to the CEPS section
  • be first author on the abstract;
  • be no more than three years past the highest degree; and
  • present their research during the Scholander Award competition poster session at the American Physiology Summit to be considered for the award. 
Criteria

The application package includes: 

  • PDF of abstract submission,
  • abstract first author’s name,
  • abstract sponsor or advisor’s full name,
  • abstract sponsor or advisor's email,
  • statement  from advisor or transcript certifying that the applicant is not more than three years past earning their highest degree, and
  • evidence that the applicant is conducting comparative or evolutionary physiology research based on publications and/grants.
