The American Physiological Society (APS) Cardiovascular (CV) Section provides a Fellow distinction. The Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section (FCVS) is a position open to members who have demonstrated continuous and meritorious research in cardiovascular physiology. 

 Benefits of the FCVS honor include:

  • Recognition for your meritorious research in cardiovascular physiology.
  • Eligibility to serve as a member of the CV Section steering committee.
  • Eligibility to be nominated for the Carl J. Wiggers Award.

 Eligibility

Nominees must have:

  • A regular membership in good standing for the past two years.
  • A primary CV Section affiliation.
  • The rank of assistant professor or above, or equivalent investigative position in a non-academic sector, for a minimum of five years. 
  • A demonstrated a track record as an established investigator.
  • Published meritorious physiological research in the cardiovascular field.
  • Demonstrated service to APS and/or the CV Section.

Nomination Criteria

The nomination package consists of:

  • The FCVS Nomination Form.
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of support from current FCVS.

 Examples of evidence for eligible investigators include:

  • Senior/corresponding author publications.
  • PI on grants not related to development, e.g., AHA, SDG.
  • APS activities, e.g., meetings, committees.
  • Chairing oral sessions, e.g., at the APS annual meeting at Experimental Biology, the American Physiology Summit and/or AHA.
  • Service on study sections.
  • Service on editorial boards.
  • Supervising students and trainees.

 At least three of these criteria should be met for consideration.

The selected FCVS will be informed via email, recognized at the APS CV Section Banquet during the American Physiology Summit and presented a certificate.
