Statement

First and foremost, I am dedicated to advancing the discipline of physiology, so I want to serve in whatever role that will support the American Physiological Society (APS) as the major advocate for physiology. Some of my best experiences in life have been the witnessing of life in physiology, discovery and application of the knowledge to improve lives. That may sound a bit lofty, but it’s truly a driving force.

I can contribute my experience from leadership roles as chair of the Department of Physiology at Indiana University School of Medicine, president of the Association of Chairs of Departments of Physiology, member of the Board of Trustees for Augustana College and a leader in the American Diabetes Association.

I thrive on the continuous learning opportunity available to me by being on a governing body with bright, highly successful people who I respect. This service is an honor and a privilege.

Finally, I return to the driving force. I want to see that the energy many trainees and colleagues have invested in the discipline of physiology further stimulates equity and opportunity for all and appreciation and expansion of knowledge in basic and medical sciences.
