Join APS for a virtual membership meeting and town hall discussion. We’ll recognize our many engaged volunteers including outgoing committee and section chairs; outgoing past president Jeff Sands, MD, FAPS; and immediate past president Meredith Hay, PhD, FAPS. Scott Steen, CAE, FASAE, will discuss the state of the Society and preview new programs and initiatives to come. We will also hear from incoming President Linda Samuelson, PhD, FAPS, and conduct a virtual gavel passing ceremony.
Agenda
Welcome
2019–2020 Year in Review: Progress & Action
Outgoing APS President Meredith Hay, PhD, FAPS, reflects back on her time as the 92nd president of the Society. Hay discusses how the advancements made during her tenure will be instrumental in the Society's continued success in future endeavors.
Recognition of Major Award Winners
The Physiology in Perspective: Walter B. Cannon Award
Virginia Miller, PhD, FAPS, of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is the winner of The Physiology in Perspective: The Walter B. Cannon Award. This is the most prestigious award that APS bestows, recognizing the lifetime achievement of an outstanding physiological scientist and APS member.
Henry Pickering Bowditch Award
Eric Belin de Chantemèle, PhD, of Augusta University is the winner of the Henry Pickering Bowditch Award. This award honors early-career achievement in physiology and is given to an APS member younger than 42 or who is fewer than eight years from the start of the first faculty or staff research scientist position beyond postdoctoral training.
Bodil M. Schmidt-Nielsen Distinguished Mentor and Scientist Award
Susan M. Barman, PhD, FAPS, of Michigan State University is this years winner of the Bodil M. Schmidt-Nielsen Award. The winner of this award is judged to have made outstanding contributions to physiological research and demonstrated dedication and commitment to excellence in training of young physiologists.
Meeting the Challenges Ahead: A Roadmap for Our Future
APS Executive Director Scott Steen, FASAE, CAE, will provide a review of the current state of the Society. Learn about his plans for continuing to move APS forward during this time of uncertainty. He will highlight new projects and programs coming soon in Meeting the Challenges Ahead: A Roadmap for Our Future.
