In this webinar, JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, will discuss the pathophysiology of menopause-related vasomotor symptoms, sensations due to changes in blood flow. She will explore the hyperactivation of the thermoregulatory pathway mediated by hypertrophy of the neurons in the brain associated with the decline of estrogen. Pinkerton will also review treatments for vasomotor symptoms, such as menopausal hormone therapy and neurokinin receptor antagonist drugs.

JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, is the Mamie Jessup Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is passionate about women’s health and is the founder and division chief for the Midlife Health Center at the University of Virginia Health System (UVA Health). Pinkerton has led more than 30 clinical research trials with over 170 peer-reviewed publications on menopause, hormone and nonhormone therapies for menopause-related vasomotor symptoms and osteoporosis.
